Apiary Open House

The Village of Hanover Park Environmental Committee held the ribbon cutting and open house of its Community Apiary on Saturday, September 24^th.  Elected officials and representatives of the Environmental Committee met with residents, potential beekeepers, and even a representative from the Chicago Botanic Society to showcase the apiary.  Beekeeping equipment was displayed and honey bee trivia was discussed to enlighten and amuse.  A lucky few were even given an up close introduction to the bee hives with the honey bees coming out right on cue to say hello.  The Village currently houses five bee hives and is planning on expanding up to 20 in the coming year.  If anyone is interested in becoming a beekeeper, and keeping a hive at the Village apiary, please contact the Village’s Environmental Committee at 630-550-5005.
