The Hanover Park Police Department and Village Board welcomed home Officer Tim McNulty from his tour of duty in Afghanistan at the Village Board Meeting on February 2nd. Officer McNulty was called to active duty in February of 2011, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, as a United States Marine Corps First Lieutenant in company E, Fourth Reconnaissance Battalion, Fourth Marine Division, Marforres. This unit is a Marine Corps Reserve Unit stationed in Joliet, Illinois. McNulty’s Recon unit was attached to the Third Recon Battalion for overseas deployment to Afghanistan. During the deployment, Officer McNulty was recognized in the August issue of the Battalion Newsletter by the Charlie Company Commanding Officer for his involvement in the discovery and destruction of a huge cache of explosives and IED making materials. The Company Commander commented that the elimination of these materials greatly increased the safety of the Marines operating in the area as well as the local population. In December 2011, Officer McNulty received a promotion to the Marine Corps rank of Captain and he and his fellow Marines returned to Joliet in December 2011. During the deployment, Officer McNulty received a US Flag from the Hanover Park Veteran’s Committee. The flag was flown at an operational base in Afghanistan and has been returned to the US. Officer McNulty presented this flag to Mayor Craig, the Village Board and Veterans Committee at the board meeting. The new Police Department Headquarters building will be dedicated on February 18th at 11:00 am. This flag will be the first US Flag raised at the new Hanover Park Police Headquarters building at 12: 30 pm during the dedication. Chief David Webb stated that the Hanover Park Police Department is proud that Officer McNulty served in Operation Enduring Freedom and is looking forward to Officer McNulty returning to duty as a Hanover Park Police Officer.
