Water and Sewer Rates

Your bimonthly water and sewer bill is calculated using separate rates for water usage and sewer treatment based on the Village’s actual cost of providing these services.

Effective May 1, 2008, the water rate is $4.21 per 1,000 gallons.  There is a minimum bimonthly water bill for usage up to 12,000 gallons in the amount of $50.52.   The minimum bill ensures that all households share equally in the fixed costs of operating the water distribution system.

Sewer charges vary depending on whether the home is located in Cook County or DuPage County.  Sewer charges vary depending on whether the home is located in Cook County or DuPage County.  The rate for Cook County residents is $1.69 for each 1,000 gallons of water used.  The rate for DuPage County residents is $4.57 for each 1,000 gallons used. Cook County residents pay an additional sewer charge on their real estate tax bills to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, while DuPage County residents submit their entire payment to the Village which provides their complete sewer service. There is no minimum sewer bill.

Sewer Credit Program

The sewer credit program recognizes varying seasonal water usage.  Summer sewer charges are based upon winter water usage.  The billing process recognizes that sewer charges should not be applied to water usage that does not enter the sewer system (for example, lawn sprinkling, washing cars, or filling pools). Sewer bills for the summer months are calculated using water consumption in February or March.

Reduced Water Rates Available for Senior Citizens

Senior Citizens who apply to participate in the program will be billed only for actual water used, therefore, the 12,000 gallon minimum water bill consumption amount does not apply.  Hanover Park residents age 65 or over must apply for the minimum water bill exemption by July 1st of each year.  Applications are available in the Finance Department at the Municipal Complex.

If you need further information, please contact the water billing department during regular business hours at (630) 372-4233.
