State of IL $250 mil Grant Program Portal Opens August 18, 2021 


The State of Illinois today announced the $250 million Back to Business (B2B) grant program to support the continued recovery of small businesses across Illinois.


While many business types and industries may apply, businesses in the following industries will be given priority status for grants: restaurants and taverns; hotels; arts businesses and organizations; and more.

Businesses located within Disproportionately Impacted Areas (DIAs) - which includes Hanover Park, as defined in statute, will be prioritized.  DCEO and its grant administrator partner, Allies for Community Business (A4CB) will make awards on a rolling basis, according to these priorities.  Information is online here.  For a flyer, click here.


Application Portal opens August 18th
  • Documentation needed:
    • Business owner ID (ITIN business owners eligible)
    • Business’s 2019 AND 2020 Federal tax returns
    • Two (2) business bank statements – one from the period April through December 2020, and most recent statement
  • Prepare for the application process early by learning about the information and documents required.  The Application will also be available in: Spanish, Polish, Chinese, Hindi, and Arabic.
  • List of Frequently Asked Questions
For assistance:  Contact a community navigator for one-on-one technical assistance. Many can assist in Spanish as well as additional languages.  Here is a link for more information.  The Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs), including Elgin Community College (ECC), College of DuPage (COD), and the Women's Business Development Center (WBDC) can also assist with one-on-one technical assistance.

DuPage Workforce Innovation Board 8/20/21 webinar: Finding Talent


The DuPage County Workforce Innovation Board (WIB) will host a free online workshop on "Best Hiring Practices" from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2021.


Businesses of all sizes are invited to hear best practices and real-world case studies on how to improve the ability to source, hire, and retain employees. The August webinar is the first in a new series of DuPage County WIB-led workshops to assist local businesses with today’s challenge of finding and hiring talent.

In this first workshop companies will discover:

  • Recruiting Best Practices - 10 tips on how to optimize the hiring process

Celebrating Black Business Month


August 2021 is being celebrated as National Black Business Month. 


To honor the contributions of Black-owned businesses across the state, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), through its Office of Minority Economic Empowerment, is celebrating August as Black Business Month.  This month-long celebration includes a series of events highlighting community leaders, organizations, and business enterprises throughout the state, a campaign inviting Illinoisans to “Shop Black-owned Business Saturdays.  A summary of events is online.

New SBA PPP Forgiveness Portal


The SBA has launched a streamlined application portal to allow borrowers with Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans $150,000 or less through participating lenders to apply for forgiveness directly through the SBA.  

 

The portal is available only if the PPP loan is $150,000 or less and the lender is one of the 600 lending institutions of the lender list.  The new "Forgiveness Platform" began accepting applications from borrowers on August 4th, 2021.  Information on this new feature is on-line.

Borrowers that need assistance with forgiveness applications should call (877) 552-2692, Mon - Fri, 9 am - 9 pm CST.
