Hanover Park Kicks Off Labor Day Campaign for Safe and Sober Driving

The Hanover Park Police Department announced its plans for a traffic safety campaign focusing on impaired driving and other dangerous behavior such as distracted driving and failure to buckle up. With messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” "If You Feel Different, You Drive Different" and "Drive High Get a DUI," the high-visibility mobilization is running from Aug. 20 through the early morning hours of Sept.7 to include the Labor Day holiday, an often-deadly time on Illinois roads.

The Hanover Park Police Department is partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement across Illinois for the increased statewide effort.

This Labor Day weekend remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family drive drunk or impaired by drugs. Even a small amount of alcohol or other drug can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe.

The Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

2021 Roadway Resurfacing Update

The end of this week will mark a milestone for the resurfacing project.  Approximately 95% of the concrete work on Village streets which are part of this program will be completed.   We anticipate this work to be completed by the end of August.

Following the completion of the concrete work, our prime contractor will resume asphalt milling on the remaining streets followed with resurfacing.  As always residents will have access to their street and driveways during the construction progress, however minor delays may occur.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding construction activities, please contact Public Works at 630-823-5700 for additional information.

Annual Fire Hydrant Flushing

Hydrant flushing will be taking place through Tuesday, September 14.  The Village Water Division will be flushing hydrants throughout the Village.  The flushing will occur between the hours of 6:00 AM and 2:00 PM.  Signs will be posted in designated areas prior to flushing.

Residents should not wash laundry during the flushing hours as the staining of clothes may result from the rust that is stirred up during the flushing process.  Residents with water softeners are encouraged to check the cycle time of their softeners so that the unit does not regenerate during this period.

Residents often ask why the Village flushes fire hydrants every year.  The answer is regular hydrant flushing is a vital part of routine maintenance for the water system for these important reasons:

Improves Water Quality:  Flushing removes minerals such as iron and magnesium that have collected in the water mains.

Improves Water Flow:  By removing these minerals, the inside diameter of a water main is increased and therefore allows a better flow of water.

Hydrant Maintenance:  A fire hydrant is a mechanical device.  Operation of a hydrant lubricates internal mechanisms and gaskets.

Hydrant Inspection:  Any deficiencies are noted and repaired as necessary to ensure that each hydrant will perform when needed for an emergency.

Hydrants will be flushed by area according to the following schedule:
