Halloween Safety Tips

Illinois State Fire Marshal James A. Rivera recommends a few simple steps to help to create a spooky season that doesn’t turn into a scary situation.

  • Use a battery-operated candle or glow stick in jack-o-lanterns.
  • When choosing costumes, avoid long trailing fabric.
  • If your children are wearing a costume mask, make sure the eye holes are large enough so the child can see out.
  • Teach children to stay away from open flames, including jack-o-lanterns with candles in them.
  • Be sure children know how to stop, drop, and roll if their clothing catches fire.
  • Dried flowers, cornstalks, and crepe paper catch fire easily. Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like light bulbs and heaters.
  • Provide children with flashlights to carry for lighting or glow sticks as part of their costume.
  • Remember to keep exits clear of decorations so nothing blocks escape routes.
  • Make sure all smoke alarms are working.

fallen leaves on sidewalk

Let’s all be “Leaf Safe.”

It is fall, and yes, that means falling leaves. Leaves are a source of beauty and wonder with the colors and wind-swept skies, but they can also present us with safety challenges and housekeeping issues.

The Village of Hanover Park works hard to pick leaves up and dispose of them but they need help from residents.  Keeping leaves off the streets avoids safety issues for cars stopping, slips and falls, and potential flooding in storm sewers and streets.  Resident-collected leaves can be placed in yard waste bags and removed free of charge until November 25th. Together, we can be a “Leaf Safe” Village.

grass planting

2023 Resurfacing Project

All concrete work, asphalt paving, and pavement markings have been completed on all streets within the project limits. Restoration should be completed this week. Your cooperation is appreciated to ensure healthy grass coverage.

If there are any concerns, please contact our office immediately since the project will be closed shortly.

For a location map, please visit our website.

As a part of this project, 41 street sections are being improved (approximately 7.16 miles). The work includes various spot drainage improvements (e.g., curb and gutter replacement), spot sidewalk removal and replacement to meet the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, pavement patching, removal and replacement of the existing asphalt surface, pavement markings, and necessary restoration.

The public will have access to the streets during construction; however, minor delays may occur.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding construction activities, please contact Public Works at 630-823-5700 for additional information.

hole dug for water main

2023 Water Main Improvements Project

The new water main on Plum Tree Lane has been installed, tested, and water services transferred. The old water main will be disconnected this week. Concrete repairs will start next week, and pavement improvements the week after. Next week, the general contractor will continue installing the new water main along Country Farm Road.

For a location map, please visit our website.

As a part of this project, 1300 lineal feet of an 8-inch water main was replaced on Plum Tree Lane, from Walnut to Sycamore, and 1600 linear feet of a 12-inch water main will be replaced along County Farm Road, south of the West Branch DuPage River. In addition, the work includes spot drainage improvements (e.g., curb and gutter replacement), spot sidewalk removal and replacement to meet the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, pavement patching, removal and replacement of the existing asphalt surface, pavement markings, and necessary restoration on Plum Tree Lane.

The public will have access to the streets during construction; however, minor delays may occur.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding construction activities, please contact Public Works at 630-823-5700 for additional information.
