DuPage County to Offer Energy Assistance Beginning Oct. 1

DuPage County will provide energy assistance funds to help income-eligible households with their natural gas, propane, electric bills, and furnace repairs beginning next month.

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) offers one-time help to income-eligible homeowners and renters. This can help pay energy bills or restore shut off energy services. LIHEAP customers of Nicor Gas will also get a monthly discount on their natural gas bills through the new Low-Income Discount Rates.

DuPage County Community Services will start taking applications Oct. 1 for adults aged 60 or older, individuals with disabilities, families with children under the age of 5, and households that have had their utilities disconnected or have received a disconnection notice. Residents can make an in-person appointment starting Sept. 17 by calling Community Services at (630) 407-6500 or (800) 942-9412. Appointments will begin on Oct. 1. All other income-eligible households can apply starting Nov. 1.

To qualify, household income must be at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Income limits can be found online at www.dupagecounty.gov/liheap.

Fire Department Open House

We hope you will stop by Fire Station #15 for a visit during our Annual Open House on Saturday, October 5th, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

You will have an opportunity to see how a fire station operates and participate in fire safety activities.  Kids can practice being a firefighter and everyone can learn about "hands only" CPR.  You will be able to see lifesaving equipment and tools and talk and interact with firefighters.  The Hanover Park Fire Corps will be there to tell you about the important work they do for all of our local fire departments and how to become a volunteer.  You can meet and talk to our Emergency Management Coordinator to learn about weather safety.  Plan to come out for a fun-filled day and don't forget to bring your camera.  The event is FREE!

Fall Bush Pick-up Program

The Brush Pickup Program provides free curbside pickup and chipping of branches, which are then reused as mulch. Last year, the program produced 1,765 cubic yards of mulch which was made available free to Village residents for use around shrubs and flower beds. Brush will be picked up in October. Please note that it may take more than one day to pick up all of the brush in a designated area. If your brush has not been picked up on the first day, please be patient.

Brush must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of your scheduled collection date to avoid missing your cycle. Residents are asked to follow the collection schedule listed above and on the Village’s website at www.hpil.org
