New Year, New Projects!

The Public Works and Engineering team can't wait for the weather to warm up and construction season to begin. This year's projects, ranging from road resurfacing and watermain replacement to bike path upgrades, are a part of our ongoing commitment to keeping the Village of Hanover Park safe and beautiful! Over the next few weeks, we will provide a brief overview of what is to come in 2026 and what residents should keep an eye out for during the upcoming construction season. The first project we are highlighting is our Center Avenue Sidewalk Project.

Center Avenue Sidewalk Project Overview

  • Project Location: Center Avenue from Maple Avenue to Laurel Avenue
  • Project Description: There is currently no sidewalk on the east side of Center Avenue. This project will install roughly 3,500 feet of new sidewalk and improve curb ramps at each impacted intersection.
  • Primary Goal: To improve pedestrian access and safety by eliminating a gap in the sidewalk network.
  • Impact: Temporary lane closures and limited street parking may occur during construction operations. Driveway access along the east side will be affected as the new sidewalk is installed. Residents with impacted driveways will receive advance notice with instructions on parking during that time.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Late March 2026
  • This project received $496,200 in grant funding through the federal Surface Transportation Program!

Have questions about this upcoming project? Please contact the Engineering Division at (630) 823-5700 or check out our Current Projects webpage at www.hpil.org/1234/Current-Projects for the latest information.
