OBJECTIVE:
Provide improved stormwater quality by providing improved streambank stabilization and reduce flooding with the creation of new flood plain storage areas.
DESCRIPTION:
Hanover Park: The project restores and stabilizes the eroded streambanks. Work includes streambank excavation and re-shaping, removal of a box culvert, and re-meandering of the stream to create new channel and forebay areas. Rock toe, in-stream rock substrate areas, stream barbs, and pre-cast modular retaining walls are used as stabilization measures. New native plantings will be installed to improve water quality.
Schaumburg: The project includes realignment of portions of the channel to create a sinuous reach, regrading of banks, installation of vegetated stone toe, installation of two riffle structures, removal of existing sheetpile wall, installation of a new watermain under the stream, lining of a sanitary sewer under the stream, grading to create floodplain storage, and plantings/restoration.
UPDATE:
The contract has been awarded to EarthWerks Land Improvement & Development Corporation. Construction on the Schaumburg portion of the project is expected to begin in the coming weeks. Work on the Hanover Park portion is scheduled to start next year.
