Department Organization
The Hanover Park Fire Department operates from two fire stations with shift personnel working a 24/48 schedule. On-duty personnel begin shift at 7 a.m. each morning and are on-duty until relieved by the oncoming shift at 7 a.m. the next day. Shift personnel then have 48 hours off before they are required to report for their next 24 hour shift.
Shift personnel are divided into three battalions with each shift being led by a Battalion Chief. Each shift also has a Lieutenant assigned to the engine company at both Station 15 and Station 16. On-duty personnel staff two engine companies, two ambulance companies, and a command car or “buggy.”
The department's Tower Ladder is staffed as a 'jump company" with firefighter/paramedics from the Station 15 ambulance.
Overall operation of the Fire Department is under the command of the Fire Chief who reports to the Village Manager. The Deputy Chief is second in the chain of command.
