Demographics
In 2022, the Hanover Park Police Department had an authorized strength of 96 employees which includes 61 sworn officers and 35 civilians. At the time of the data collection, the department had 91 employees and four vacant positions. The demographics that follow are based upon the composition of the department on November 30, 2022.
EMPLOYEE TYPE
The department’s employee type consisted of 59 sworn officers with two vacant positions (65%) and 32 civilians with four vacant positions (35%).
GENDER DEMOGRAPHICS
The police department employs 57 males which comprises 63% of the total employees while 34 females comprise 37% of the total employees. Sworn employees comprise 65% of the total employees of which 48 are males (81%) and 11 are females (19%). The civilian employees comprise 35% of the total employees and consist of nine males (28%) and 23 females (72%).
AGE DEMOGRAPHICS
The age demographics are separated by sworn and civilian. Eighteen percent (20%) of the department employees are between the ages of 20-29, 36% between the ages of 30-39, 21% between the ages of 40-49 and 23% are over the age of 50. Eighteen percent (20%) of the sworn employees are between the ages of 20-29, 46% between the ages of 30-39, 21% between the ages of 40-49 and 5% are over the age of 50. The civilian employees consist of 19% between the ages of 20-29, 19% between the ages of 30-39, 6% between the ages of 40-49 and 56% over the age of 50.
EDUCATION DEMOGRAPHICS
The education demographics of the department are separated by sworn and civilian personnel. The five categories examined include: Master’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, Associate Degree, Some College and No College. (Some College is defined as any college credit earned, but no degree attained regardless of program.) Of the 91 employees, 10% have master’s degrees, 47% have bachelor’s degrees, 22% have associate degrees, 16% have some college, and 4% have no college. Of the 59 sworn employees, 7% have master’s degrees, 51% have bachelor’s degrees, 31% have associate degrees, 12% have some college, and 0% have no college. Of the 32 civilian employees, 13% have master’s degrees, 25% have bachelor’s degrees, 6% have associate degrees, 25% have some college, and 13% have no college.
RACIAL DEMOGRAPHICS
The racial demographics of the department are separated by sworn and civilian personnel. The racial categories examined include Asian, African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and White. In addition, the ethnic category of Hispanic is examined. The department employs 5% Asian, 0% African American, 0% American Indian or Alaska Native, 0% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, 23% are White Hispanic, and 74% are White. The 59 sworn employees are comprised of 5% Asian, 0% African American, 0% American Indian or Alaska Native, 0% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, 27% White Hispanic, and 68% White. The 34 civilian employees are comrised of 0% Asian, 0% African American, 0% American Indian or Alaska Native, 0% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, 16% White Hispanic, and 84% White.
