Property Assessments

Every three years, property in Illinois is reassessed by the County Assessor.  In DuPage County, property is assessed at 30% of market value.  In Cook County, Residential property is assessed at 10% of market value while commercial property is assessed at 25%.  If a building is mixed-use with a residential component and has one owner and PIN, it is assessed at the residential rate.

The Cook County Assessor's Office encourages commercial property owners to submit a completed RPIE form.

For more information, contact the assessor for the county where your property is located.  You may also wish to reach out to the Township Assessor for appeals help.  If you don’t know which county or township to contact, try our Property Search tool!

Cook County Property Assessment Appeals

In July 2022, the Hanover Park Economic Development Committee (EDC) hosted a town hall meeting with the Cook County Assessor's Office to discuss the assessment appeal process.  If you believe your property was overvalued, you have the right to appeal within 30 days of the date of your assessment letter.  The process applies to properties within both of our Cook County townships.  Property owners who were unable to attend can still view the presentation slides.  You can also see a report of the 2022 triennial reassessment for Hanover Township.  Schaumburg Township has not yet been finalized.

In 2020, the Village hosted a virtual town hall with the Cook County Assessor.  You can watch that town hall on the Village’s YouTube Channel.
